Personal background:
Iwan Baan is a dutch photographer who is known for images that narrate the life and interactions that occur within architecture. Iwan was born in 1975, grew up outside of Amsterdam, and studied at the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague. He worked in publishing and documentary photos in New York and Europe. On Iwan's twelfth birthday he received his first camera and this helped spark his longtime career of photography. In December 2011 Iwan was named one of the 100 most influential people in contemporary architecture. Iran was also a recipient of the ALA Stephen A. Ailment Oculus award.
Style:
Iwan Baan is a photographer who uses unexpected perspectives, the presence of people and movement to retrieve the traditionally static art of photographing structures. Iwan had passion for documentary and space. Baan's photographs revealed our innate ability to re-appropriate our available objects and materials, in order to find a place we can all call our own. Iwan's architecture photos are normally taken with the landscape orientation. I can compare his photos to some other aerial photos and some taken in museums.
Philosophy:
Some major ideas behind Iwan Baan's artwork is that he tries to narrate the life and interactions that occur within architecture. He also focuses to record various ways in which individuals, communities, and societies create and interact within their built environment.
Influences:
Iwan Bann has influenced me to take pictures of unique structures and use different angles. He has inspired me to take pictures go big cities from above. He has also inspired me to take pictures from below looking up at something. Also he has taught me a great life lesson which is you don't have to take pictures of the most popular cities because the ones that are really beautiful are the ones that have been here for a long time. Even though they are old and rusty they have their own character.

Compare and Contrast:
My first photo compares to Iwan's photo because they were both taken on an island and they both have a little bit of industrialization right before the ocean meets land. The second photo compares to Iwan's photo because they are both taken with the landscape orientation, they have trees that create natural paths and homes in the distance. My third and final photo compares to Iwan's because they were both taken in the city of chicago and they were also both taken from above so you can see the city in the distance.
Personal Artist Statement:
My three images were taken in three very beautiful places. My first photo was taken was taken on the spectacular island of Capri, Italy and it reminds me of all the great memories I had there. My second photo was taken in the amazing country of San Marino where I want to a beautiful old castle and saw the whole country from above. My third and final photo was taken in the city that never sleeps Chicago. I took this photo from the top of the sears tower.
